Dumb Question 3

Only Dumb if Dumb Q2 actually turns up...

It was: I can read and send, but when I do I get a message like this:

Your message was successfully posted. However, Windows Mail was unable to
contact the community server, so rating, category, and other community
information was not included with the message. See the News error log for
details. Subject 'Is this a dumb question?', Account: 'Microsoft
Communities', Server: 'msnews.microsoft.com', Protocol: , Port: 80,
Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 200, Error Number: 0x8007000D

But, naturally, that one didn't seem to get sent at all, thereby
establishing Vista's excellent implementation of Murphy's Laws...

Not dumb questions, but they are somewhat dumb
subjects. It would be better to describe the problem
in the subject so that people know whether they might
be able to help. Imagine what it would be like if
everyone posted a subject like, "I have a question".

I'm not sure, but that sounds like some sort of
hokey Windows Live "community" feature that you
haven't signed up for.

As Meinolf Weber said, you're better off using a real
newsreader. "Webmail" (or Google groups ... or any webpage
-based newsgroup access) is a very awkward way to do
newsgroups. They weren't designed for that.

Yes, I was aware that they were all dumb subjects but they were all posted
within a couple of minutes, and "Is This A Dumb Question?" was semi-targeted
(successfully) to get brink's attention <g> (se Brink's sig)

A late-night-not-terribly-funny-but... approach.

[on the other hand, dumb subjects -> newbie-> more views -> more potential
respondees -> maybe more ideas... Sometimes I guess people assess very
precise subjects and think "dunno..." and don't read the body (at least I
do)]
