Dual Monitors

Setup: Two widescreen LCD monitors, one larger than the other.
One new nVidia graphics card (7600GT) which supports 2 monitors.

Goal: To have the larger monitor in front of me -- smaller monitor off to
my right.
To have the taskbar & my approx. 50 desktop icons on the smaller
screen on right.
To have most programs open on the larger monitor in front of me.

Problem: So far, everytime I shut down or reboot my system, I never know
where the taskbar and desktop icons will show up. I had everything setup
great, but a reboot just moved all my icons from smaller monitor on right to
the big one in front of me. Yuk..

Assuming most programs are going to open on the primary monitor as defined
by XP, is there a reliable way to assign the taskbar to the non-primary
monitor and have the desktop icons stay put on the smaller monitor??

Thanks.

You might need to use third party software. Do a Google search for UltraMon.

Just a thought as I can't test it. Drag your taskbar where you want it
and then "lock" it there. That's a right click option on the taskbar.

I hope others can give you a better reply than this.
I find that the icons will stay in place -on the RH monitor - except
if you do some thing with your monitors. IE sometimes updating the OS
with change the dual settings.
If you open a program from an icon on the RH mon - then pull the
window to the left hand mon - close it and next time you open it it
opens on the left hand mon.
The task bar (i think) is always on the main monitor.
I use two 19 inch and thinking of a third but i admit it took me a
long time to get the two set-up as i wanted them.
