1. I thought that XP home did not support dual CPUs but XP pro does.
Does XP home support the dual core CPUs?

2. How does XP allocate which task runs on which CPU, and does the
user have any control over it? I would probably want to have the app
I'm working on using one CPU and everything else on the other.

Windows XP Home supports one physical CPU, XP Pro supports two.
Both support dual-core technology. To learn more, visit
http://www.intel.com/personal/desktopcomputer/dual_core/
and click on the link titled "Dual-Core Demo".

You probably need to install the Macromedia Flash Player
to view the demo:

I don't think that's the problem. I reinstalled Flash, it still
wouldn't work. A couple of days ago I tried to go to some census data
at
http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ga/mcintosh/census/1840/0081a.gif

and it does the same thing - closes after about a second. I contacted
the webmaster, and she said that it worked for her. I think I checked
"block popups" on some third party software I was trying that may be
causing the problem. Other than these two sites, I usually I get a
bar at the top saying that the popup has been blocked, but these
briefly open and close.

(I may need to ask on the IE newsgroup about having too many popup
blockers.)

Perhaps you need to check options in your browser. Check this:

Tools, Internet Options,

Now scroll down until you reach Multimedia and ensure everything is
ticked *except* "Show Imsges Download Placeholders".

I laughed when I read your reply...Intel's implementation of Dual Core does
not allow the two cores to communicate directly with each other...they can
only "see" each other by going through the Northbridge chipset.

True Dual Core processors have a method to communicate directly with each
other, internally.
It is often referred to as a Crossbar.

Intel "Dual Core" procs are technically just two cores glued together. They
are not anywhere near as efficient as Dual Core Opterons, Athlon64 x2, or
other consumer level dual core procs.

While true, they're still true dual-core CPUs. One CPU, two cores.

(under the Advanced tab).

I followed your suggestion, and everything was that way. I've also
gone to tools/Manage add ons, and disabled 4 things I didn't know what
they were plus a popup blocker. I disabled another popup blocker and
IE's popup blocker, but it still has the problem.
