but surely dual core will not function 100% in an operating system like windows xp

prehaps it was more designed for vista

Quad Core of course will enable even more good work to be carried out.

Obviously I must of been off planet or something for the last few weeks as it seems like everyone building super quad core pc's for a hundred quid...Oh well next time I won't bother...

crazylegs, I wasn't having a go mate, and I certainly wasn't saying I could build a quad for a few hundred quid - its costing me far more I can assure you

For some that rig may do them just fine - just pointing out it may not be as big a bargain as it seems on the face of it mate, especially as we don't know what mobo/graphics/ram is being used

Its 0400 and I'm off to work shortly - but here's what I came up with quickly at overclockers uk without searching around elsewhere for offers etc - I would imagine I could get a bit better and cheaper if I had more time:

I did the same thing last night Ady, forgot about it until i checked the site and saw it all in my basket!

Your set up is almost perfect, but the memory is only DDR and wont fit in that board. But will let you off due to it being 4am. Funny, thats when i went to bed after a game of CoD with the BBF lot.

I stayed with onboard graphics, like the original pc and picked a decent PCI-E motherboard for upgraded purposes.

I know its not 300 quid but i would gladly pay 350 for that system if i needed it.

Just back from work at 9.30pm - a 16 hour shift - back at 5am

Not bad VR, but we musn't forget the OS though!!

The main point I would make is that that the Acer rig would be fine for someone doing basic internet/word processing (and lets not forget crunching) - but I doubt it would be any use for gaming - it doesn't say whether its 939 or AM2 either, so any future upgradability would be limited I suspect.

I spose your average bod out there would be glad of it though for general pc use and internet...

crazylegs, there is nothing to apologise about mate - you have rightly pointed out a system for a cheap price that would probably suit someone on here for general use who isn't able to build one themselves
