Inherited Gateway computer has two hard drives with XP Pro set up and running
fine from automatic "quick boot" according to "system setup". How do I
proceed to install Linux OS on the second hard drive from a CD ROM drive? In
my primative understanding, I want to automatically boot to XP on Drive C:,
but have means to close XP and switch to Linux on Drive F:. My wife of more
than a half-century insists that when she uses the computer, XP comes up
without either of us knowing what's happening.

in oder to dual boot Windows XP and Linux you are going to have to specify
which drive to boot to . In oder to do this you will have to enter the
Bios when you start the computer on most machines you can do this by pressing
the F2 or DEL key once inside the bios you can set which Which Drive the
computer
will boot to. The drives may be listed As HDD 0 HDD 1 HDD 0 being Drive C and
HDD 1 being Dive D or F Some Bios show the hard Drive as letters and numbers
such as ST3120026A or some other combination of letters and numbers.
these setting will be in the advanced bios features on the award bios
or Boot if it is using an Intel mainboard.
