dual boot with Highpoint ATA

Not too up on hard-drive partition/format stuff and I have no experience with
WinXP so here's my question.
Have an ABIT BE6 mb.
Presently I have this IDE/ATA configuration -
IDE3 master(ATA) - 80GB with 2 partitions of 40GB. First is Win98se and second
just for data.(C: & F:)
IDE3 slave (ATA) - 12GB just for data. (D:)
IDE4 master(ATA) - 120GB just for data (E:)
(All FAT32)

IDE1 & 2 - Total of 3 cd/dvd burners/drives. (W:, X:, Y:)

Have the latest Highpoint controller s/w for this board (V1.25)and Win98se.

I'm thinking of getting WinXP but I want to keep my Win98SE install as I have
hardware that I can't get WinXP drivers for.
I'd like to install WinXP on the 12GB (D:) drive and be able to boot to either
WinXP or Win98se at startup and use a common drive for data that both systems
can use.
Someone told me that there might be a problem due to the Highpoint ATA drivers.
Also something to do with WinXP/Win98se not recognizing each others format
(FAT32/NTFS?)

Any help appreciated.

You'll want to boot the Windows XP CD-Rom. If XP does not natively support
your controller then *F6* very early and very important (at setup is
inspecting your system) in the setup to prevent drive controller detection,
and select S to specify additional drivers. Then later you'll be prompted to
insert the manufacturer supplied Windows XP driver for your ATA controller
in drive "A" Then choose to install to your "D:\" partition.

If you wait and then S to specify additional drivers, then it may be too
late as Windows XP Setup at this point may have already assigned the
resources your drive's controller is wanting to use.

NTFS is the native file system of Windows XP. Win9x can not read NTFS
without third party support. If this is a problem then install XP to a fat32
partition.

Thanks Dave,
I'm not sure what you are talking about with the "F6" but thats something that
would be apparent when/if I do the install, I suppose. I'll have to remember
this.
So, as long as my "data" drive is FAT32, both WinXP (NTFS) and Win98se (FAT32)
will be able to read/write to that drive and share files? For example, if I was
to capture mpg video (have ATI AIW 8500 Radeon) in Win XP and saved it to the
FAT32 "data" drive, I could boot to Win98se and load that mpg into an editing
application?

* This step is required to load/ install third party drive controller
drivers during text-mode portion of setup.

* Yes, shouldn't be a problem.
