DUA without DUA Service

I trying to get my head around DUA. I know you have to create a script
using the QFE as reference. But my question concern updating run time
image; If I have a runtime image WITHOUT DUA Component/Service
installed on the machine. Can a generate a stand alone patch management
files, put it on a memory stick and run directly from the memory stick
without the need of DUA service polling for the files?

If you don't want to use DUA, you don't have to. Many companies develop
their own update / patch management solution. It depends on the system needs
and features. If you want to use DUA scripts than you will have to us the
DUA service.
