dropping scan into word document in 07

XP with 07 enterprise...

I guess I am just curious, but why did they drop the ability to scan a
picture (etc.) directly into a word document? What was easy, is now a multi
step process (scan with some other product, save to disk, cut and paste,
etc.). This, to me, is a serious step backwards in utility, particularly if
you use Word to sent faxes (because you must scan in the hard paper to fax
it).

Apparently because few people used it and not all scanners were supported.
