dropdown menues always freeze

any time i click a dropdown arrow..ie in internet explorer
or in an adress bar in a normal window it freezes..same
thing happends when i dbl click my computer..i get the
little flashlight thing for ever....like it can find
anything...

Im using win XP pro pretty sure all my services are set to
default

any ideas?
