drop-downs fail post-conversion 97

wondering if anyone else has experienced this...

have an old Access program from 95/97 era - converted it to Access2002 with
2000 file format.

almost all of the forms have a list/combobox at top by which user selects
key field of record which then populates all fields on form - and this works
still in Access 97

but post conversion none work; the drop down is there and it shows the data
from which one can select...but upon select - the fields in the form are not
getting populated with data.

some forms are built direct off tables, others off queries - same symptom....

have dropped in a new list/combobox - and has same situation...

if I build new form from scratch it works fine....which is ok on small
simple forms but alot of work for some of the biggies...

I note that the method used was to make the Record Source of the old form to
be the value in the list/combobox within the form....i.e.
Form-A Record Source: Forms![Form-A]![ComboBoxName]

So when I attempted to drop in a new list/combobox I changed that 3rd
parameter to the new box name - but as noted - did not work.......

Also changed the Record Source just to the table/query itself with a new
list/combobox installed - still not filling the fields on the form when
selected....

Anyone out there whom has done a conversion and wrestled with this already &
knows the answer to this ?

thanks
