drop down menus

I recently moved my Windows 2000 OS and all applications
to a new Pentium IV that replaced my older Pentium III. I
have found that since installing on the new machine, the
drop down menus only come down part way, and I need to
click on the arrow to extend them. I don't like this, and
want the menus to extend fully when clicked on. I must
have known how to do this once, since my older machine did
not have the problem, but I have been unable to figure out
how to do it now. I did uncheck the "personal menus"
option in the taskbar properties, but this has not
helped. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

That tip, which says to "uncheck 'use personal menus'" was
the first thing I thought of (see my original request,
below), but it doesn't seem to have worked. The programs
this comes up with mostly are Microsoft Office. Do you
think the problem is there, rather than in Windows? I
would have assumed the Windows setting would have control
over all sub-menus, but that could be wrong. Is there
anything else you would recommend trying?

Yes, Microsoft Office programs have settings that are separate from
Windows settings. Open Word, for example, and go to Tools > Customize >
Options tab, and uncheck "Menus show recently used commands first".
Changing it for one Office application should change it for all.
