Drop Down menu and ASK fields

I am having trouble creating a document. I want to use both a drop down menu
(in the signature line) as well as ASK, REF and FILLIN fields throughout the
document. However, when I protect the section that contains the drop down
menu, my fields no longer work. Is there someway around this problem?
