The file alcxwdm.sys belongs to the driver for an Avance Logic sound card.
The driver is incompatible with Windows XP or is corrupted. Contact Avance
Logic for assistance.

The answer was found in seconds on Google. In the time it took you to
compose and transmit your post, you could have corrected it. I simply
googled for the name of the offending file.

Check out MS Knowledgebase Article - 317326 for your answer.

In reply to your rather smarty pants answer...it's not
my computer, so no, I couldn't have fixed it that fast,
And secondly I also googled the error message & found
hundreds of similar errors...And thirdly his computer is
up to date with the updates And your info on a fix was
for the wrong error anyway.

Thanks Ted, I was leaning towards the avance driver as
directed by someone else, but have been unable to correct
the problem through the "update driver" function. I am re-
assured now that that particular driver is the culprit.

Thanks a million.

It was not a smarty pants response. It was meant to show you that in
certain cases it could save you time by using Google. And the answer you
need was contained in both the First and Second hit on Google. The MS KB
article has the fix for your problem.

When I was growing up, Bobby, the equivalent of Google was the dictionary.

I'd go to my father.
Me: "Dad, how do you spell establishment?".
Dad: "Go look it up in the dictionary".
Me: "How the hell do I look it up if I can't spell it"?
Where upon my Mom would run out of the kitchen and whack me for using a naughty
word. :(

The fact is that Google is worse than a dictionary. If you don't know how
something works, or what something is, Googling is absolutely the worst way to
look for an answer.

At least the dictionary was up to date, accurate, and guaranteed by the
publisher. Google just searches for web pages - they don't guarantee anything
about the search results.

We find an answer easily - because WE already have some background in how to
Google, and how to look for a serious answer. If you don't phrase your Google
search just right, you'll get 10 broken links for 1 working one, and half of the
working ones will be web pages written by folks whose only intent is to get YOU
to surf their web page, which generally contains bullshit.

Finding an answer using Google, when you don't know the answer, is like looking
for a diamond in a coal mine, with your eyes shut.

Your answer was a bit more polite than "Google is your friend", or "Google for
it". But not a lot.

Cheers,
Chuck
