John

I regularly reboot my system and reinstall everything.
But this latest time i rebooted my computer, I had a
probelm updating my XP Windows through the site.
Normally there are 6 or device drivers that are updated.
But this time, I did not have any to update, infact
looking at the web page it looks like the driver option
is not available. Does anyone know why this is
happening????? Is there anything I can do to activate
driver update downloads???

Thank you

I think this is some sort of 'bug' at the Updates Site -
many of us have the same problem - Drivers Section
completely greyed-out

This has happened to quite a few users including myself on one PC.

AS yet I don't think there is a satisfactory solution. However, strangely
enough my diver option suddenly came back as mysteriously as it went away. I
certianly never did anything actively to cause the fix (apart from browsing
some of the drivers in the update cataloge (an option on the update page -
perhaps that cured it I don't know)

Windows Update is not a reliable source for driver updates. If you
believe a driver needs updating, check the device manufacturer.

Drivers Update has grayed out since around 11th Oct. MS is working on it.
Apparently when more than one driver update is posted, there is a conflict
and the option item grays out. Read Eric Brodish (MSFT) posts in:

microsoft.public.windowsupdate.

A certain Spencer reported one solution -- Drivers Update 'degrayed' -- to
the same newsgroup on 18th. You may like to look that up. Personally, I
won't
be in a hurry. A driver update direct from the manufacturer's website is
always more up-to-date.

John, do I understand you correctly that you do a clean install of WinXP
followed by all the Windows updates and all your application software on a
*regular basis*? Just curious.
