Driver Stop Error on OS Re-Install

Tim P

Because of continued problems with my PC after removing
some software, I've decided to completely reformat my hard
drive and reinstall Win2K. The problem is I still get a
Stop 0x000000D1 error during the Windows Setup.

The error is STOP: 0x000000D1
(0x00038212,0x00000002,0x00000000,0xEB41110E)
DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
Address EB41110E base at EB410000, Date Stamp3820e051 -
BOOTVID.DLL

I'm kind of at a loss on how I can have a DLL driver stop
error on a fresh install.

I've gone through the BIOS looking for problems but found
nothing unusual. I've even loaded the "fail-safe" BIOS
settings. No good.

Can anyone tell me anything about what the BOOTVID.DLL
does?

BOOTVID.DLL is the VGA boot driver for Windows 2000 (also in XP and 2003)

Check out the following article, let me know if it applies:

No, this article does not apply. My Gigabyte motherboard
is a single processor board.

Hmmm
Have you seen this more than once? If so, do the same memory addresses show
in both/all? I'm thinking that there may be a problem with your physical
memory.

The answer is yes and no. I've seen this message many
time before with different memory addresses. Probably as
a result of my uninstalling devices.

Since I reformated my hard drive and began a new Win2K
install, the memory address is the same.

0xD1(0x00000000,0x00000002,x00000000,0xF201110E)

Hope this helps.

Actually, that is what I was referring to, since the re-format.
My thinking is, if it is the same memory address each time, then it is
possible that there is a problem with your physical memory. Are you running
with more than one RAM chip? If so, take one out. Then switch them if you
still have a problem.

We've spent yesterday afternoon and this morning
troubleshooting the system memory and VGA adapter. We
downloaded the #1-TuffTEST-Pro3.53 program to test the
DIMM modules. We were getting random errors with the
Marching Ones test. We checked this against a brand new
DIMM module and still got errors.

We thought we may have had a thermal problem with the
integrated peripheral controller (AMD761). We installed a
larger heatsink and fan. We ran the TuffTEST proram again
and found we had cleared the memory errors.

We also ran the TuffTEST program on the AGP video
adapter. It passed all the tests.

We rebooted the PC and still got the STOP 0xD1 BOOTVID.DLL
error.

I replaced the AGP video adapter with a PCI video adapter
and still received the BOOTVID.DLL error.

I'm not sure what else there is left to check.
