Driver for Intel SATA Controller?

I recently upgraded my system with an Intel Bad Axe 2 motherboard & a Q6600,
running
XP SP2.

The device manager shows an Intel 82801GB SATA Controller with an Intel
driver. I was curious if it was up to date and checked Intel's web site.
Intel lists the Intel Matrix Storage driver for the controller. However, the
instruction says the driver should be installed if & only if the controller
is configured as RAID or AHCI. I'm not using either.

So, does it mean that XP SP2 has taken care of the driver (and perhaps
up-to-date)?

I have the same components and did not load any SATA drivers during set-up
and my DM shows the same as yours. I assume XPSP2 installed the driver. I
have had absolutely no problems with the set up after 6 months use.

If you wanted to use SATA, RAID, AHCI, you would have had to install the
Intel drivers using F6 during XP install. Since you didn't, XP simply
installed its standard IDE drivers. No problems unless you decide you
want the other feature(s).

Thanks (also thanks to RobV). I like my system so much that I just wanted to
make sure I didn't do anything wrong. I had zero crash with my previous Bad
Axe system during the past 18 months, so I got a Bad Axe 2 and put the Bad
Axe in my 2nd PC.
