Driver for HP DeskJet 710c

I installed the Windows 2000 supplied driver for an HP DeskJet 710c printer and printed a test page, which printed successfully. However, when I try to print from Word 2000 or Notepad the printer prints a few bands of the test sentance rather than the full height of the line. Does anyone know why this is happening and how to resolve it?
