I can see both servers in network neighhood in my domain. the problem is I can not map to \\Jack\c$ from Jill but I can do the opposite and map \\Jill\c$ from Jack. I verified the DNS and WINS setting were the same. The IP's are stati

Do you get an error? If so, what does it say?

"The network path \\jack\c$ could not be found" is what I get when I type it in. If I follow the icons for the network path I click on Jack and nothing else comes up nor does the OK but highlight

Can you do a net view of Jill from Jack and see its shares?
You mentioned that you can ping ok, but wasn't sure if that included pinging
by dns name as well as ip. You should also be able to ping your dns domain
name successfully to make sure that dns it resolving properly and you see
both machines registering host records in dns. Normally those error msg
resolve around name resolution (or lack there of) so you might try a host or
lmhosts file as well just to test with to be sure the resolution is ok.
