Drive mapping with cname alias

Hi,

I have created an cname for a server on my network on my 2003 domain. I
cannot map a drive using the cname alias but i can with the normal fqdn of
the particular server.

I get an error "duplicated name exists on the network". I can resolve the
alias ok to an ip address. Is it not possible to map a drive using an alias?

On a another note, sometimes there are problems mapping drives through ip
but not via netbios. Any ideas?

Is the server dual homed for redundancy at all, if so try disabling the wins
client on the bindings of the 2nd network adapter.
