Drive Letter Change

Another fine mess! Running XP Home. Got the bright idea of
deleting the useless hidden "restore" partition, adding it
to C:. Changed the boot.ini to reflect only 2 partitions.
Windows died. Finally got it repaired and running, but now
what was C: drive is L:. There is no C: drive. all my
programs are there but the pointers are all for C: so they
are useless. Windows says I can't change the boot drive letter.
Am I stuck with re installing everything so it will be happy
on drive L:? Right now Windows XP is the only thing that
runs, and ever it is not too happy at times.

How did you convince yourself to do something so stupid?

It's really quite a useful lesson you can impart to us.

What made you think that "restore" partition was "useless"?

Do you think you ACTUALLY knew what you were doing when you deleted that
"restore" partition [your terminology] without considering the consequences?

And EVERYTHING is back to NORMAL now -- no glitches, no delays, no hiccups?

I would never restore it back like it was when I bought it.
If I was that desperate I would format and Install windows
from a CD and set it up again.

I have recovered all the programs by making a new C: drive
and copying everything over to it except the windows files.
They will live on drive L: henceforth.
