Hi all,

I used to have A (diskette), C (boot HD), D (DVDROM) and E/F (virtual
drives); then I installed a DVD writer and another hard drive, then I removed
the virtual drives. The new drives still used G and H skipping E and F.

Is there a way to have windows xp reassign these drives to new letters?

Thanks a lot,
John

Removing the drives in device manager before you add new
hardware allows Windows to detect and assign letters in
sequence. But you can use device manager to manually assign
fixed drive letters to the drives in any way you choose
using each drives properties.

I don't know what you mean by "E/F (virtual drives)"
Assuming they were partitions that you have removed;
Start your Computer Management and look at Disk Management.
HighLite the drive and Right Click.

If you cant find computer management console from Run
%SystemRoot%\system32\compmgmt.msc /s

Right click on My Computer and select "manage".

- Launch "Computer Management": Administrative Tools > Computer
Management (or start > run > compmgmt.msc)

- Click "Disk Management" under "Storage"

- In the right pane, right click a drive letter and select "Change
Drive Letter and Paths," then click the "Change" button.

Huh?
