Drive label changed

The name of my CD R/W drive some how changed to the name of a disk that was
in the drive. I went to My Computer clicked on properties of the drive on
question. I entered the correct name in the label box and when I clicked on
Apply I got a message that this was not a valid name. I tried several
different names with the same result. How do I rename this drive back to
it's original name.

Put the original disk back in.

These drives display the name of the disk that's inserted, and on a CD or
DVD ROM, that can't be changed once the disk is created.

On an RW disk, you can change the label, but still not like on a hard disk.

If there's no disk, there will be no label, just an indication of the type
of drive.
