Drive Image 2002

Anyone still using Drive Image 2002 to make images of C: drive on XP SP2? I haven't used
it since pre-SP1. Does it still work OK? Also, how about Partition Magic 8? TIA

No problems with both programs here. Working perfectly!

With SATA drives, DI 2002 doesn't work from the floppies (or Hiren's). So
you can't restore the C: drive and that makes it useless. PM 8 floppies do
work with SATA drives.

I have never actually had the need to restore an image using DI 2002 (yes, I know I've
been very lucky), so I may have been naive about it's actual usefulness in the event I
ever really needed it. It was very easy to create the image files though. Is there
another easy backup solution that works every time? TIA

Don't get me wrong. DI 2002 is a good app and works with WinXP but only with
IDE drives. I've restored scores of drives successfully using DI 2002.
If you have a SATA drive try Ghost 9 (my favourite and it's almost identical
to PowerQuest V2i Protector Desktop) or Acronis TrueImage 8. There are
several other apps but I've only tried them with IDE drives.

Do you have a SATA drive?

To be honest, I don't know what a SATA drive is. I am still using IDE as far as I know.

I've been experimenting with Drive Image 2002 & Partition Magic 8 on my home network. On
4 out of 5 PC's (all running XP Pro and updated to SP2) both programs report my XP
partition as "Bad". Yet on the fifth one they report the XP partition as ok. All the
PC's are working beautifully, two are fresh XP installations. I'm perplexed but think
I'll try Ghost 9. Anyway, thanks mucho for your time.

Usually "Bad" partitions won't boot. A mystery.

Try chkdsk on the C: drives and then look at the partitions again in PM.

Brian, just a thought , would it be possible to use PQVFEDIT.EXE and inject the files from an SI3112 driver floppy into the virtual floppy? I am in kinda the same boat-sata boot drive, ide drive for images . The system reboots but doesn't see the sata controller and doesn't do the virtual floppy. Thanks,
Jeff
