Drive Image 2002 giving "Error 91"

I am running W2K SP3 and have been using Drive Image 2002 without
problems for over a year.

Today , when I used the D.I. floppies to access a saved Image File ,
after the second floppy reaches the part where the normal D.I. green
screen appears , I'm now getting the following error message :-

"ERROR 91

Disk Manager has been detected on Drive 1 but DM is not running. If
you are booting from a floppy , remove the floppy and re-boot. Press
and hold SPACE BAR as PC reboots. When prompted insert boot floppy and
continue booting "

This action produces no prompts and the PC boots into W2K normally. I
can find no trace of Disk Manager and have not installed anything with
this name.

I have 2 hard drives installed - a 60 Gbte ( which contains W2K ) and
a 9Gbte second drive which I use for data backups. The other day I
removed the 9Gbte drive and replaced it with a 120 Gbte Maxtor drive
which came with an installation CD containing MaxBlast 3 Installation
software which , when run , formatted the new drive and made it
readable and usable.

Thinking this may have been the cause of the sudden appearance of this
error message, I removed the MaxBlast software but this has not cured
the D.I. error.

Can anyone explain this "ERROR 91 " and suggest a cure. W2K is
operating with its usual stability but I have been relying on D.I. as
my means of restoring any major "glitches " should they occur and , as
this is the first time I've had any problem with D.I. ,this is a
worrying and puzzling development.

Thanks SloPoke - much obliged - I also take the point - I should have
looked there myself first !! - apologies - I shouldn't be so lazy .

No worries, I hope it solves your problem.

I have now followed the procedure detailed in the Powerquest page
recommended above but , as I am running W2K , I used an old Win 98
Startup disk for this procedure and copied the expanded WRPROG.EXE
onto this floppy ( it already contains FDISK)

When booted from this floppy I get to an A:> prompt and , if I then
type " WRPROG/bak head0.dat " as requested I get an " incorrect
command " message .

In spite of this , I then typed " FDISK /CMBR 1 " .

On Re-boot W2K again starts normally but , if I then retry to start
Drive Image 2002 as before I get the same message indicating Disk
Manager has not been removed.

I am assuming the failure here is probably because Disk Manager is
present in the new ( Slave Drive ) and not in the Master Drive which ,
according to the advice given by the Power Quest URL , will not work
until this drive is changed to the Primary Master by adjusting its
jumper settings .

As this secondary drive does not contain the OS , I'm reluctant to
make it the Primary Master Drive.

Would a simple format of this drive remove this Disk Manager and ,
therefore , able Drive Image to work normally ?

Could the problems here be due to the use of the Win 98 Start Up Disk
?

Maybe WRPROG /bak head0.dat causes WPROG to back up the first head of your
HDD...

Simple way to also "clean" your 2nd HDD is simply disable your first HDD in
the system BIOS...
Could the problems here be due to the use of the Win 98 Start Up Disk
? Not at all

I had a problem with DI2002 and a similar error.
I downloaded a file from Seagate.com, I think Disk Manager
and there is a utility that will remove the drive overlay.
I'd go look now, but I gotta go...

I'm back..
Anyway I have a Seagate drive that had a drive overlay problem that DI2002
didn't like and removed the overlay with this old Seagate Disk Manager
utility:
Disk Manager v9.56a

http://www.seagate.com/support/disc/drivers/diskmanager_download.html

It creates a bootable floppy and you need to go to i think Advanced ....
and find the remove overlay utility

This webpage, " DiscWizard 16-bit download " , is kinda of buried in the
Seagate website.
After removing the overlay, Drive Image 2002 has worked great.

Too bad DiskWizard won't do this, it takes this old utility.

I've downloaded this Disk Manager v9.56a and created a floppy with
this in it.

I'm afraid I'm confused as to exactly what to do next to get rid of
this Disk Manager - how exactly do I access this " Advanced " so that
I get to the part where it removes DM? Do I use this floppy in some
way ? I don't see anything in the URL above which would lead me to a
removal of DM .

It's a boot disk with Drive Manager.
You insert the disk in the floppy drive and reboot the computer.
Disk Manager should appear if your BIOS is set to look for a:\ at boot.

Then it's:
Enter
(A)dvanced
(M)aintainance Options
(D)ynamic Driver Overlay
(R)emove Dynamic Drive Overlay

Good Luck
