Drive Icons in MY CMPUTER

Not sure how it happened but the drive icons I used to see when opening MY
COMPUTER, have been replaced by a generic icons.

Is there a way to restore the original system icons for the hard drives that
were installed with XP Pro?

I've searched on the net but most of the sites suggest editing the registry,
and I'm not really comfortable doing that ...
not to mention, I don't really understand the changes they tell me to make.

Thanks-Dave

Start- Run- Regedit
Delete all subkeys of :
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\DriveIcons

Good Luck, Ayush.

I gave it a try but after starting it up it gave a drop down menu for the
icon's to fix, unfortunately the Drives weren't listed. I ran it anyway
since it did show My Computer in the drop down with the hope that it would
also repair the drives....NO LUCK!

Thanks again TOAO

hello Ayush,

Thank you for your response.
I deleted all the subkeys you suggested but it didn't repair the icons for
the hard drives, I still have the generic ones
..
I have another copy of WinXP loaded on a different drive, did regedit on
that, checked for the key, noticed that there as
no key "DriveIcons" for what you suggested and tried to also delete that key
on the OS that's having the problem....
still have the generic icons.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks-Dave
