Drive capacity

I have a Western Digital HD Model: WDC-WD2500JB-32EVA0. It
was working fine until I used Partition Majic which
crashed during partition creation. I used WD software to
get it working again, but it is understating the capacity
by 50%. It ststes the drive is 125 gig (approx) when it is
actually 250 gig. installed Windows Updates but it still
does the same thing. I need to be able to format the drive
for 250 gig capacity.

Thanks

For Windows XP to recognize drives greater than 127GB:
1) BIOS must support 48-bit LBA,
2) The disk controller (either on the motherboard or separately) must
support 48-bit LBA
3) Service Pack 1 must be installed and lastly,
4) 48-bit LBA must be enabled in the registry.

When you say that you used the WD software, do you mean
the DLG Diagnostic ver 5.03? You do state that it was working
previously. It it hard to say what partition magic may have done
during your crash. You may have to start from scratch again.
This WD diagnostic can be downloaded from here:
http://support.wdc.com/download/index.asp
This utility will make a bootable diskette, and then you can
see if the whole drive is recognized.
Once you get this HDD back to factory specifications, you
should just be able to use the XP install CDROM and go from
there.
good luck
