I have XP home and wish to share the hard disk on my local
net. However, when I enable the drive to be shared
the "Share name" entry box is greyed out and the default
name 'C' cannot be changed. Individual folders on the
drive permit the share name to be set as I choose.

Is this a 'feature' of XP Home or is there some way to
have a disk shared with a name other than 'C'.

Thanks for the help,

John

haven't seen this on XP home specifically, but on 2000 and NT4 the C drive was shared for admin purposes as C$ , which means it's a hidden share. If you try to map to \\machine name\C$ from another machine you may be able to browse it. Give it a try and let us know
