If you check on Windows Update you'll find a per-release version of
DreamScene for download. It ships with one video modeled off the default
wallpaper.

Awesome. I've been playing with the beta for a while, and it's great. :)

Thanks! It should make some people feel a little better thinking they got
ripped off because it didn't come with it...

Hi Dustin, whats your CPU utilization like with video background
(butterfly)?

its sucking my Quad core dry! I realized as soon as the CPU fan (which
never comes on) started up at full speed. CPU's 1-3 ~15-20%, CPU 4 ~50%
utlisation with nothing else going on and no other apps loaded.

CPU goes back to normal when I change to static backdrop.

WMV will be heavier on the CPU than MPEGs will be. What's your CPU usage
like when playing the WMV anyway? It should be in the same sort of range.

WMV is 15-20% on CPU's 1-3 and ~50% on CPU 4 (this is a Quad proc QX6700).

MPEG is slightly less but not in the 2-3% range.

Plus theres no sound!

It's a "preview".
I think its purpose is to try to calm down the crowd that is pissed at
Microsoft for heavily advertizing something as if it is readily available
while it's not.

I was never looking forward to this pointless and distracting eye-candy, but
it is worse than I was expecting. Very high CPU and memory use with the
standard wallpaper movie on my Intel Core 2 Duo with 2GB of RAM. It makes
3D Flip look useful and efficient by comparison.

Installed it .. nice. Playing one of my own videos as a background per se is
sort of dumb, but the dream scene provided makes nice wallpaper.

I don't understand all the buzz over DreamScene. Macs have had this feature
for the last quarter century. just ask Ted Landry!

'Cause it a nice feature from Microsoft, not a thrid party app that either
costs extra beyond what was paid for the OS, or screws up the works, or
both.

Its killing my dual core, running a e6300 with a 7900gs.
Thought it was supposed to be more GPU dependant, im gettnig 60% CPU usage
on both cores running WMV and slightly lower with a MPEG.
Nice feature but some serious performance issues there and not usable with
that resource hog.
