Microsoft Visio Professional Edition comes to mind. There's cheaper and
perhaps free alternatives that fail to meet the features of Visio which are
specific to software development until moving into the very pricey
alternatives to Visio itself.

Personally I use "dia" for my diagrams. It may not have the fancy
graphics for users, data sources etc, but I've found it a lot easier to
use than Visio. Oh, and it's free too

yes, I forgot to mention that I need something other than Visio
just for a while until I get my Visio instalation back from a friend..

something small and handy..
