Drastic Slow down with XP

I have recently loaded Win XP home on new 80Gb Hard
Drive.. I have an AMD Duron 1300+ , 256 MB DDR Ram Running
few Programs, no games, Office XP Pro /Front Page not
installed. Norton 2003A/V Latest Updates, Have Cable
Internet.
there are 4 (Four) Users on this with seperate login.

Have noticed that Word, IE and most functions are Now
very Slow to open .they eventually do but the speed is
so drastic i may as well be on a pentium 133. thats what
it seems. Any idea how to diagnose this prob and fix ,
patch , memory, etc.

The fix outlined in this bulletin may be applicable if you have Norton installed:

After updating to the January 7th or 8th virus definitions, your computer slows
down and Microsoft Word and Excel will not start

Hi Mike,

Well. That's the cause. After updating to the January 7th or 8th virus definitions, your computer slows down and Microsoft Word and Excel will not start:
