Dragon Naturally Speaking 7 - not working on 2nd user acct

Cheryl

I recently bought a computer with windows XP. I have setup
two users on the computer, 1 for me(admin) and a 2nd one
for my dad (limited). He purchased Dragon Nat. Speaking 7,
he cant type well & thought this would help him with
email, etc. I tried to install the software when we were
logged into his user acct & it would not install. I tried
switching his acct type to admin. acct, still wouldnt
install. So i installed it under my acct, the first acct.
We got it to install & work. Then when we logged into his
acct, the program wouldnt start. Is there something I have
to do in regards to sharing? Anyone have any input on
this? I checked the Scansoft website & couldnt find any
info on this problem... Thanks, Cheryl

Cheryl, open documents and settings » make sure that the shortcut to Dragon is in the all users folder (start menu, programs). If it is only in your file, try moving it to all users. Mine is located at; C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Dragon NatSpeaking 7.0.lnk

One of the methods for getting software like this to install for a limited
user is to temporarily make that user an administrator. After the software
is installed, return them to Limited status. You need to restart the
computer after making that change. The account is not an "official"
administrator until it has logged on with those credentials.

Another method: while his account is still limited - you would right click
on the EXE file that starts the setup and select RunAs to type in your user
name/password.

Since Windows and the Program Files structure is very restricted for
Limited users, another alternative is to create a folder outside of Program
Files (C:\Dragon for example) and install the program to that location.

If the program is on CD, you may want to take a look at its contents using
Windows Explorer. Look for a document file ( possible file extensions: DOC,
TXT, HTM, HTML or PDF ) that has "Release Notes" or "Setup Information" as
a filename. The company's recommended procedure for installing the software
for all users on an XP system may be described in that document.

I usually solve problems like this by using an Administrator account to
install it in a subfolder of the "Shared Files" folder.
