dragging formula

I have a small formula that wont drag down
the column. The answer of the formula is what is
dragging. How do I fix this so I have the correct answer
in each cell?

=left(a3,5)

Are you getting an error? What happens when you try and do it? Are the cells
blank afterwards? Is the worksheet/cell protected?
The formula looks fine. If you are dragging by the little black cross in the
bottom right hand corner of the cell, there should be no problems.

Check Tools>Options>Calculation to see if "Auto" is enabled.

I'd check to see if calculate is set for automatic:
Tools|Option|Calculation Tab
(it sounds like it's set for manual)
