I am the webmaster for my company's website. We are a
weekly newspaper, and update our site every week. When I
try to drag and drop the folder containing last week's
news stories into the archive folder, I get a server
error message. We can only do this on my partner's
workstation, which is a problem this week because his
computer is down! We work off a network drive in
Frontpage 2002. I have XP and he has Windows 2000. Any
clue what's going on? Thanks for your help!

Hi, Mike,

Thanks for the quick response! The message is: Server
error: Cannot copy folder "G:\newweb\news\091504" to
folder "G\newweb\archive\091504".

And the folder you are actually copying is named: 091504
(from G:\newweb\news\ to G\newweb\archive\) in FP?

No, it is not. The folder I'm trying to move contains
html pages for news stories. Some contain images, some do
not. Each week we need to move the previous week's folder
of news stories to the archive folder in the web and
create a new folder in the current news folder for the
current week's stories. The site is www.licatholic.org if
you would like to take a look at it. Thank you!

Are any of the image in the folder over 1 MB?

What happens if you first copy the html page, then do the images?

I have a feeling we're getting off the track here, so I'm
going to repeat my original inquiry:

As I said, we have no trouble doing this on my
associate's workstation, but I have not been able to do
it since I switched to XP. It should be just a simple
drag and drop to move and rename the folder.

To address your questions, none of our images are more
that 200K, and we're talking about moving a folder of 8-
12 html pages, so I don't really understand the your
second question. Thanks for your time.

Cathy,

There is a limit of 1MB under Windows XP that may be affect you, that is why I ask to first try
moving the pages, then move the images.

like so...
1. Create the new folder for the archive
2. Drag the pages from the current folder to the archive folder
3. Next drag the images one at a time to the archive folder

As long as you do all of this in FP, any links and reference to image should be updated.

Thomas,

I apologize if I seemed a little frustrated, but this has
been going back and forth now for three days, and I
thought it would be a very simple thing. I'm sorry - I
neglected to mention that the folder I'm trying to move
only contains the html files; images are in their own
folder which does not move. The folder with the page
files is only about 350K; do I still have to create a new
folder and move the pages one by one? This seems awfully
cumbersome. What is the 1MB limit; on moving folders?
Thanks again for your time.

Cathy,

I would still recommend doing the manual move of the files, just to see if that works, you can
select all of them at one time. The one-by-one was only for the images, but since they don't move,
they shouldn't be part of the problem.

The 1MB limit is related to a MS Update, but we don't know which update.
