Drag function

Glenn

Hello,

I'm currently having a problem with my excel 2000. I am
running on microsoft xp if it is any help.

The problem is that only some times, when I click on a
cell the drag function will kick in and highlight cells
where ever my mouse goes. I am not still clicking the
mouse or anything. The only way for me to stop this from
going on is to do cntl Alt Delt. It will still persit
though when I open it back up. This problem doesn't
happen consistently though which is very weird. Some
days it works just fine and others...not so much. I have
run Norton antivirus, but nothing seems to come up.

Thank you for all your help!!

Are you saying that as you move your mouse all cells get selected?

Do you see "EXT" or "ADD" down on the lower right of Status Bar? If so, you
are in EXTENDED or ADD Cells mode. Hit F8 key to get out of EXTENDED mode.
Hit SHIFT + F8 to get out od ADD mode.

If not, there are some reported problems with the Wheeled Intellimouse.

David McRitchie has some notes at:

And if you need a new(er) MS mouse driver:

Gord,

Thank you for the reply. I tried to do both of these
functions, but neither seem to work. What is the wheeled
intelmouse?

Gord,

Im going to try and change the mouse driver and see if
that works. the thing is that the mouse on the laptop
does the same thing also, not just the external mouse.
You are correct, i don't have the thumbwheel on my
mouse.
wish me luck. any other ideas if this doesn't work??

thanks again.

It is a particular model of mouse with a thumbwheel used for scrolling around.

You obviously don't have one or you would know.

Have you looked at ALL the potential problems and fixes at David's website?

No other ideas.

The URL below is the results of a google search on "stuck mouse". Browse
through and you might find something new.

I think all the bases are covered in the results of the search.
