drag and drop

I have the wierdest problem. All of a sudden I find that drag and
drop is completely gone. I have tried dragging files with registered
appendages to their respective applications with no effect. But double
clicking the files opens the app. Reboot, reboot, log in as admin,
same thing. All I can think of is that somewhere in the registry some
setting is screwed up. Anybody seen anything like this?

I just found out I am not alone in this problem. On a VR message
board someone else has the same problem but on XP. They don't know the
answer to the problem either. At least I know now that I am not the
only one who has the problem. There is a workaround however and that
is to use "Open with" on the context menu. However it doesn't solve
the problem.
