Hi all. I recently upgraded my realtek onboard sound
drivers. Man am I dumb! I no longer allows me to use my
Mic as it is not detected any longer. I know it works
cause I can get feedback like made if I unmute it in the
driver. Anyways I tried sysrestore -nothin! and I went
way back before it started having problems, I installed a
proper audio card (SB LIVE 5.1---proper???) removed the
realtek software, removed any reference to realtek in the
registry and still nothion. Have re-installed, rebooted.
restore but am not interested in reformatting for one
litle bitty problem. Anyone aware of any dll's that i
could reinstall or anything that might help me. I plan on
keeping the SB card in the comp. Thanks in advance!

Hi,

I've searched high and low from microsoft to mcafee's suggestions...th
problem lies in the registry (in my case). I was getting this sam
error. Also, my event sounds like windows startup, email, etc sound
were not working either. As it turns out, I had a similar PC at wor
and export these two keys to register the MIDI and default Window
files in order for it to work again. It worked like a charm. I als
had an issue with the windows recorder not working...again...thi
import fixed it.

NOTE: My work PC was a win2k Pro and my home PC is a WinXP Hom
Edition. Import this key using the win2k should not cause problems bu
you should always backup your registry. Also, some rules to know:

1. If the source file (SF) has keys that exist in the destinatio
registry (DR), the destination registry will be overwritten with th
new value.
2. If the SF does not have a key that is listed in the DR, the D
entries will be retained (i.e. not deleted).
3. If the SF has keys that do NOT exist in the DR, it will be added t
the DR.

Here are the 2 keys:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Window
NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32]

and

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Window
NT\CurrentVersion\drivers.desc]
