Match the second GB - like sticks - with the pair in the first Gb? 512Mb x2
there.
Would then add One (1) Gb in 512Mb sticks -or- 2x 1Gb for a total of 3Gb.
Did I say that correctly?

To potentially increase to 2Gb, Best Buy had a "buy" on 512Mb DDR2s (4200)
at $45.oo/stick. Have two (2) still in orig packaging. Tossing whether to
install or save the $90.oo.

Photoshop likes memory, but you can try it out with 1gb first.. personally,
I would go for 2gb (I have 3gb installed)..

If I understand you correctly you have purchased a 2 year old second
hand computer and are contemplating installing Windows Vista? If I
have understood you correctly I recommend you download and run the
Vista Advisor and see whether you might get any unpleasant surprises
if Vista was installed:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/getready/upgradeadvisor/default.mspx

It examines existing hardware connected to the computer and looks at
installed software. It's best to check there is water in the pool
before taking a running dive in on a hot day!

Hope this helps.

Hi Gerry: Not quite. (I said it wrong!) The machine was New in an
unopened/properly/fully sealed box - unit with factory warranty, etc.. By
two year old, the software (XP-Media) seems to go back to 2005 +/- as best
that I can determine. A Gateway GT5220, probably in their inventory -
moving out at fair $s to make way for new stuff. CPU is an AMD Duo-Core
unit w/IDE bus (vs SATA); came w/1Gb + 250Gb Hd. I could not find this
model on Gateway's on-line catalog; however, many Internet sites are selling
these (and similar) units. Vista-Prem comes with it when available in a
week 'n change.

Meanwhile, yes, I'll dwnld Vista Adsvisor. Thanks for the advice.

BTW, a note here that maybe should be on the Network group (however, not a
question but an observation):

I was never able to wirelessly network PC#1 with XP-Hm and PC#2 with
XP-Media. #1 could see #2, but #2 was blocked from seeing #1.

Now both machines have XP-Media (#1 now being the new machine). Is this a
coincidence?

Two techs at two different box houses/retailers said there was a network
incompatibility problem when XP-Hm and XP-Media were mixed together. (Pls
do not laugh too loudly!)

Now with two of a kind, they connected in seconds along with printer sharing
(which happened automatically).

Hi Gerry:

Not sure why/how I missed that. Maybe opening/closing too much to pay close
attention! What I have seems to be A-okay though. Machine doing fine.
Gateway's CD recording SW leaves much to be desired though. Could use a
Drag 'n Drop like SONIC (ROXIO). Right now I do not have a clue what
Dual-Core is doing for me (no gaming-high-speed stuff here). CPU speed going
along for the ride I suppose. The NVIDIA 6150 assures that I can display
at 1650/1080.

Anyway, I am giving my old Mthr Bd/AMD 1GHz processor and stuff to Florida
Sheriffs Youth Ranch. They like items like this.

Tks,
Wayne
