Hi
I am using IE6 on XP Home.

Recently whenever I click on a link to download a file it
automatically opens the file instead of giving me the
option to save it which is what I want to do.

Can someone please advise on where I can reset this
option.

Thanks in advance.

This is set by file type.
Open Windows Explorer and go to Tools | Folder Options | File Types.
Scroll down to the file type in question and select it.
Click Edit or Advanced, depending on your Windows version.
Check the box for "Confirm open after download".

In response the the above...I am not able to download exe files o
zip files...In fact I can't download any files. Sometimes I can us
right click Save Target As but sometimes I can't. If there is
button for download I can't right click and do a Save Target A
therefore I am unable to download any software/zip/program file.
tried to do the above: Open Windows Explorer and go to Tools | Folde
Options | File Types, but there is NO file type of EXE in th
listing...So how do I fix the download issue that I am having? Al
IE does is open up a white page with nothing on it when I try t
download without using Save Target As. Please help me...as I hav
been research this for weeks. I had IE 6 but I re-install Windows M
now I have IE 5.50 again. Pleas help me fix this download issue.

You would be better to make a new post as .exe files are a different
problem and "any files" a different problem again.

Try this but read between the lines a bit:

If it is only .exe files, then read on and see if this is relevant:
You may have an invalid plugin.
Netscape-Style Plug-ins Do Not Work After Upgrading Internet Explorer
[Q303401]
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;303401

Remove the plugin with Regedit.exe
Start-Run-Regedit.exe
Navigate down to this key and remove it, after exporting it as a
normal safety precaution.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Plugins\Extension\.exe

If that key exists, then you will see what plugin has been installed.
The key does not normally exist.
