Downloading messages not downloaded

Please,

On the bar at the bottom of the screen it says 0 message(s), 0 unread, 73,
544 not downloaded. How do I get some of those 73,000 messages to download?
For a reason unbeknownst to me, I have "when synchronizing this group,
download: all messages, headers and bodies" checked in under the synchronize
tab that comes up when right-clicking on the Windows XP general newsreader.
When I click on the Windows XP file in the folders tree in outlook express,
the messages are so recent that if I've posted mine as little as a few hours
ago the 300+ messages that people have since then posted will show up in my
inbox first. I suppose I could erase them and download 300 more (my inbox
holds 300 messages), but I can't figure out how to do this for the life of
me. I'll keep on trying in the meantime.

John

P.S. Why does my Corel WordPerfect newsreader inbox hold 900 messages in
comparison to the 300 for the Windows XP one?

Are we supposed to read ahead to find out your talking about newsgroup
messages in Outlook Express?

It's not what the inbox holds: it's how many messages you've configured
it to download in one go.

The way you synchronise ( download messages ) needs to suit you.
However, when you set up a new newsgroup check the box in Tools,
Options, Read, Get xxx headers at a time (you can change the default to
any number between 50 and 999). Set the synchronisation to New not All.
Then select Tools, Get next xxx headers, after downloading has completed
select Tools, Mark for Offline and then select Synchronise, Newsgroup
and only those Marked. Remove the check mark in Tools, Options, Read,
Get xxx headers at a time. For all future downloads use Synchronise,
preferably Synchronise All. Using the procedure described for a large
newsgroup avoids downloading thousands of messages you may never read.

Another option if you read Online is to make your Synchronisation option
Headers only. You then select and download bodies for only those
messages you intend to read. Yet another alternative if you read
Offline, is to use Headers only and then to Mark selected Headers whilst
Offline and then Synchronise for marked messages reading the selected
messages later Offline.

You would do better to post to a Corel newsgroup regarding your postscript.

Hope this helps.
