downloading in IE

Chris Taylor

Hi There,

I just have a question regarding a small problem in IE,
the problem is that whenever i go to download a file it
doesn't prompt if i want to open, save or cancel the
download, instead it automatically downloads and opens
it. It's not a major problem, I'm still able to download
it - I just find it annoying when I want to directly save
a file to disk, Is it possible to re-enable IE to show this prompt?

IE Verison: 6.0
Windows XP Pro

Thanks,
Chris

sorry, it took me some time to research this, and I think I have the answer.
Go to(on your toolbar) Tool>Internet Options>Security Tab> Custom Levels
You'll have different choices for different things.
Here is what I have on the things that I think need that kind of prompting.
P=Prompt D=Disable E=enable
For each catagory, I just did a kind of short hand...post back if I confuse you too much.
ActiveXcontrols, from the top to bottom, P, D,D,E,E
Downloads, E
Font dodwnloads, E
JAva High security
Access Data.. D
Allow Meta.. E
Display mixed..P
Don't Prompt client cert. D
Install desktop, P
Launch in IFRAME,P
Navigate, E
Software Channel.., medium.

I don'y know for sure which ones apply to download options, but try those settings to see if they work.
