downloading excel templates

why do all the templates I download start opening office 2003 when I don't
have that. the blurb on the template download says office 97 or later. I have
office 2000. so effectively, I cannot use the above referenced template
because it tries to open office 2003 when I download it. what do I do?
 
Any of them...but this time it was the amortization schedule template. It
doesn't matter which one, they all make the 2003 installation window popup
when I download them. Tim
