downloader.mscache - help remove please

Norton found this virus, downloader.mscache but couldn't quarantine or
delete.
I went to their support and found this:
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/downloader.mscache.html
I had lots of trouble with step 4. as when I clicked ok it couldn't find the
file (I think I typed in path ok, but still no luck when using run command)

I tried going into safe mode. Norton still can't do anything with the
virus.
Should I just delete the file where it is (lpggwedb.dll in RDUXQ9CE in
contentIE5 in Temporary Internet files, in local settings).

Ad-aware and Spybot aren't helping. Maybe I should try another anti-adware
program or antiviral program? Any ideas

larrylook,

You can clear the contents of the Temporary Internet folder completely,
which is harmless.

To clear the contents of the above;
Start>Settings>Control Panel>Internet Options>General Tab>Temporary Internet
Files (middle of the page) select "Delete Files..."

Thanks very much, will try it. If this simple answer is the solution to the
downloader.mscache virus for me, I wonder why Norton has this huge page on
it, spending lots of my time, and tried it several times, and their solution
never worked for me?

Thanks again.

I would suggest you download hijackthis - it picks up a variety o
objects running in the background - scan and then carefully select th
items to remove

It might be because of the difference between an exposure
to malware, and the installation of same. The alert may have
been for just the "installer", not the installation. The removal
instructions are only necessary if the downloader (trojan) was
allowed to execute.

This doesn't necessarily mean that nothing was installed
either, unfortunately.
