Seems I have picked up this virus and it has damaged a
file in my computer. Nortons cannot repair the file so I
need to get a copy of it. Any suggestions as to how/where
I can get a copy of the following file?

c:\System Volume Information\_restore{A668708F-7C82-48B4-
A661-711CD9AF7A72}\RP144\A0026581.EXE

You don't get a copy of that file. That is your system restore information.
The virus was not cleaned correctly and it still exists in your system
restore point. You should always turn system restore off when cleaning a
virus.
To clear all your restore points and get rid of the virus:
Right click my computer, properties, system restore tab, check: turn off
system restore. Reboot, turn system restore back on. Virus gone.

Thanks for your reply but it didn't seem to do the trick.
Nortons still cannot repair the file and the virus is
still there.

Can you think of anything else that might clear the virus?

You don't want nortons to repair the system restore file. You want to delete
the system restore file that holds the virus. The only way to delete the
system restore points is to turn system restore off and then reboot. Did you
turn system restore off and reboot? If you did the system restore file will
be gone and so will the virus. If your turning system restore off and the
restore points are not being deleted then you have more problems than just a
simple virus. In that case I'd try start, run, type in: sfc /scannow, hit
enter. Have xp cd handy.
