James:

When and where is Microsoft 'hiding' the info about
ordering the Windows SP2 by mail???? I have a dial up
connection and don't even want to attempt to download.
Thanks

Never, ever download any service pack or patch from any source other than
originator. Files from other sources may have been altered, and could
possibly include viruses, trojans, unwanted spyware, or ad programs. While
one of the ftp links provided by that site is directly back to Microsoft's
ftp server, the mirrors are not. Microsoft has already stated that the
service pack may not be redistributed in this fashion. If you want the real
thing, get it from the real source:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...BE-3B8E-4F30-8245-9E368D3CDB5A&displaylang=en

There is nothing hidden about the above link, it can be found in 3 click
from the Microsoft home page.

Is this the "final" version of SP2 that will be contained on the CD from
MS (when they decide to make it available)? Reason I ask is I am dialup
and planned to wait for the CD, but a friend on DSL might download it
for me.

Um, by running it? Seriously though, if it is corrupted, it won't unpack
properly. Setup will fail, it will never get to the point of installing
anything on your system. If you're really worried, you can get a crc utility
and verify the file.

Good tip. I'll get a crc utility. I wouldn't be worried with an MS
disk but one from a neighbor creates a little less confidence.
