Download Prompt

Hi,

When I go to download a file from the internet, I get a dialogue box that
prompts me to both save the file and warns me about opening the file. There
is a check box that says not to prompt me anymore. After upchecking that
box, I no longer receive any message.

What I want to do is reset it so that its like that check box was never
checked. How did I do that?

Thanks in advance *_*

Hi,
You have to set this option for each file type and the route to Folder
options> File types will be slightly different, depending on your OS:

From Windows Explorer> View> Folder options> File types
OR Explorer> Tools> Folder options> File types
OR Ctrl Panel> Folder options then File Types. Select [file type]> Advanced.
Put a check by "Confirm open after download."
You should then get the "Open or Save" dialog for each download.

I have this problem (no prompt to save/open) a .csv file on my site. I
generate the file and users need to save it to disk for use with another
application, etc.

I have had this problem since SP2. Used to be able to reset with the
directions below, but now NOT!!

Have checked the file association for .csv and the "confirm open after
download" box IS checked. I have unchecked it, rechecked it, rebooted, etc.
Nothing seems to reset this for .csv files. Several of my clients are having
this problem where the .csv file just opens in the browser as an Excel
spreadsheet.

Note that I have also tried reseting the values in internet options security
for internet zone under downloads, etc.

Try it for yourself. Create a test.csv file, link to it and unselect the
always ask box. You will NOT be able to reset it!

Any help here would be GREATLY appreciated.

This does NOT work for me. I think it has something to do with SP2?

I have unchecked the "always ask" box for .csv file and have NOT been able
to reset it with the method below and neither have several of my users who
have installed SP2.

The .csv file I am generating just opens in IE as an Excel spreadsheet.
Again, myself and several of my clients have NOT been able to reset this with
the method described below and many places on the web.

Very Frustrating.

Hi,
Here's a MSKB article which may help:
318761- Open Button in Dialog Disabled When You Browse or Redirect to .rtf
or .csv Files:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q318761

Can you give the users the choice of either a CSV or XLS file to download?
Do the users experiencing the problem have CSV files associated with Excel?

This article may help users for whom CSV files open in IE:
162059 - How to Configure Internet Explorer to Open Office Documents in the
Appropriate Office Program Instead of in IE
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=162059
If they can't simply check/uncheck the "Browse in same window" box, the
registry edits may help.

Hi,

I had the same problem and finally figured out how to fix the problem.
Please follow the steps below.

CSV file opens instead of exports.

1. Double-click My Computer
2. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
3. Click the File Types tab.
4. Under Registered File Types, select XLS Microsoft Excel Worksheet,
and then click Advanced.
5. Click to check the Confirm open after download check box, and then
click OK.
