Hi
I'm running winxp home with an ISDN modem connection.
I use AVG Anti virus software which allows fee updates of
the virus database online.
All has worked well for over a year but in the past month
I get the following message when I try to update the
database:-
"An automatic connection to the internet could not be
established. Please manually establish a connection to
download your Update files (this can be done by launching
your Internet Browser)."
The thing is, AVG has logged on and the connection is
still live. I can surf other web sites but I still get
this message from the AVG update. Sometimes it starts to
download but then times out half way through.
I am not using a firewall and my security settings are
all set to default. I have tried ticking the "automatic
configuration settings" box in the Internet
Options/settings/connection dialogue but although this
seemed to sort it the connection timed out.
I have reinstalled AVG - to no effect.
I can only assume that some windows automatic update has
installed a security option that has caused this. Even my
other pc (with xp home) which connects through a fast
ethanet network (through the same isdn modem)displays the
same error.
I wonder if there is a virus on my system or maybe its
just a microsoft thing tripping up 3rd party software?
can anyone help?
