download problem with Excel file

Can't open Excel file (.xls extension) after receiving download. XP operating system. Anyway to ope
this file without purchasing Excel? I have Microsoft Works Suite 2004 loaded on system but this
apparently not compatible with Excel.

You can try opening the Excel file with the Excel Viewer , which open only
the Excel 97 and 2000 versions. You can download the Excel Viewer from the
URL given below:

Note This viewer may open some spreadsheet files created with later
versions of Excel. However, not all features of Excel 2002 and later
versions are supported, so we do not recommend using the Excel 97/200
Viewer with these files.
