Download ask me for a file name after the download was completed

Hi all...

I have IE 6.0. When I click any link that causes to download a file (for
example, zip files), IE downloads it fully (I can see the progress of the
download in status bar) and after it has downloaded, the File Dialog is shown
so that I can choose the name and folder for the file.

That is annoying because in some cases I don't know the file size so I
cannot know how long the download will take. Other problem is that while I'm
downloading the file, I cannot navigate to other page until the downloading
is complete. I only have to open another browser.

Any help on configuring this the normal way would be greately appreciated.

Thanks
Jaime

If the file has already downloaded, what difference is the size of file? It
has already downloaded. I don't know if I fully understand what your
problem is.

Have you right clicked and then chose to Save Target or Save Picture,
whichever the case may be, instead of left clicking?

When you click a link to a file, you will be prompted for the filename and
location, right? after that, a progress dialog box appears, showing how long
the file will take to be downloaded. and the progress of the actual
download. When that dialog is present, you can safely navigate to another
page, right?

Now my problem. When I click a link to a file, no dialog box appears.
Instead, the browser keep going to the file as if it were a link to a HTML
document. In such a situation, obviously I cannot navigate to another page.
As the browser is loading the file, the progress is shown in the status bar.
Af ter the file was fully downloaded, just when that occurs, the browser
prompts for the filename and location, and after that, the file is saved
instantly.

I hope the problem is more clear now.

Thanks
Jaime
