Downgrading New Vista PC to XP Home!!!

Guest

I am looking to buy a new computer, but all the computers at popular stores
such as: Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Office Max, and Office Depot all carry only
Vista PCs. Is there anyway that I can purchase a new PC and then downgrade it
to Windows XP Home Edition? I've looked on other web-sites and I just want
some official information from Windows. Thank you for all your help!

Most new computers on the market today are designed
and optimized for Windows Vista. If you truly want
a new computer with Windows XP, visit www.dell.com
and look there.

As Carey already said, Dell:

Other major OEMs probably have similar options..

Most local shops will build a computer with your choice of operating
system.

You may need to call and talk to someone if the website is not clear.

As for buying and then downgrading to Windows XP.

You will probably need to also purchase Windows XP.
If this is what you choose to do, first check if that model has
Windows XP support for all drivers.
As time passes, more and more hardware will be released without
Windows XP support.

Your best bet is to find a retailer that still offers models with Windows XP
preinstalled and get it that way. There is no safe or certain way to
convert a new computer from Vista to XP since you'd have to buy Windows XP,
locate XP drivers, etc, etc.

Some Best Buys have a "Best Buy for Business" services, if you talk to a
BBfB rep they can special order several systems with XP installed, probably
a good idea, some sound cards that are coming out on laptops now a days
don't have XP drivers, that is to say, they don't work, aren't supported,
don't have drivers, etc.

Dell offers systems with XP, as does HP/Compaq, Gateway/Acer/eMachines,
Sony, and Toshiba just gotta look around.
