I recently installed XP Pro and would like to downgrade
to 2000 but I am getting an error saying that I cant
reinstall 2000 because windows xp is newer any ideas on
how to fix this????

You cannot simply downgrade by installing 2000 over XP, you must actually
start over by wiping the drive and beginning anew, losing everything on your
current setup. That said, as far as I know, the Windows 2000 CD is
bootable, you should be able to boot from that and wipe the drive during
Windows 2000 setup.

Hi,

Format, clean install. It's the only way, there is no downgrade path.

From the article you cited:

NOTE: If you upgraded from Windows XP Home Edition, Microsoft Windows 2000,
or Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, you cannot uninstall Windows XP.

Meaning, there is no uninstall option regardless of whether or not it was an
upgrade. Uninstall is only an option when the upgrade was from a Win98/WinME
system, and even then only under certain conditions.

There's no way to fix it. No downgrade is possible. If you want
Windows 2000, you have to clean install it.

Wipe the drive and install XP fresh.

There are multiple inquiries about this listed in here. You can either revert back to the old OS if you did an upgrade or else you will have to reformat your hard drive and do a clean install of 2000.

Upgrade from 2000 to XP does not provide for saving files for an
uninstall: only the one from98/ME

There is no "rollback" to Win2K.

To replace WinXP with an earlier OS, you'll have to boot from the
appropriate boot disk, format the hard drive, and install. There is
no supported downgrade path or technique.

Simply boot from the Win2K installation CD. You'll be offered the
opportunity to delete, create, and/or format the system partition as
part of the installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the
order of boot devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)
